State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine is the main state authority in forest and hunting management. Under subordination of State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine there are 73% of Ukrainian forests.
The main task of the State Forest Resources Agency is:
to implement the state policy in forest and hunting management, protection and conservation, sustainable forest management, regeneration of forest resources and game, to improve the efficiency of forest and hunting management;
to develop and implement the national, international and regional programs in order to protect forests, improve their productivity, sustainable forest management and reforestation, management and regeneration of game animals, development of hunting and forest management planning.
The organizational system consists of State Forest Resources Agency and its territorial departments.
Forest management at the local level is conducted by state forest enterprises that are subordinated to the State Forest Resources Agency.
State forestry enterprises are responsible for the full range of forest related work from planting of forests to their felling. Also, some companies have the capacity for the primary wood processing.
