In the current context when the global community faced global environmental problems forest related international cooperation gets to a new level.

Conservation, enhancement and restoration of forest stands as the main factor in the ecological balance of the planet have become a common task for all countries.

State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine has participated in UN Forum on Forests activities since it's establishing in 2000. State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine experts together with experts from other countries are participating in the elaboration of common approaches to conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests, achieving long-term political arrangements on forests as well as finding approaches for improving the global financial mechanism for all types of forests.

In January 2017 with active participation of State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine UN Strategic Plan for forests for 2017–2030 as well as Quadrennial program of work of the UN Forum on Forests for the period 2017–2020 was approved. The Strategic Plan identified six global objectives on forests and provided opportunity for countries to determine their own voluntary commitments for the Strategic Plan implementation.

The longest is the cooperation of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine with UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section on questions of forest resources assessment, forest technologies, management and training in European region. Since 2005 Ukraine is a member of FAO Forest Committee and participate in work of FAO European Forestry Commission. In 2015 a representative of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of FAO European Forestry Commission.

Since 1993, the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine participates in the FOREST EUROPE process. Joining to Pan-European process helps to:

define level of Ukrainian forest management in comparison with other European countries (silvicultural theory and forest management practice meets all the European criteria of sustainable forest management in some cases Ukraine has even more strict principles and approaches in forest management);

participate in informational exchange and implementation of some international projects;

encourage international assistance and investments to Ukrainian forest management.

The FOREST EUROPE review process as conducted under chairmanship of Ukraine and France.

State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine takes advantage of the European instrument TAIEX (Technical Assistance and Information Exchange), which ensures the provision of short-term technical assistance on approximation of national legislation with EU norms and standards and its subsequent effective implementation.

Protocol on Sustainable Forest Management to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians was signed by the State Forest Resources Agency in the framework of the third Conference of the Parties to the Carpathian Convention held in Slovakia in 2011.

Protocol was ratified by Law of Ukraine on 16 October 2012 № 5432-VI «On ratification of the Protocol on Sustainable Forest Management to the Framework Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians» and entered into force on 21 October 2013.

Since 2015 State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine actively participates in the International Contest «Young Peoples in European forests». In 2015 and 2017 Ukrainian students together with representatives of other countries won first prize in the finals.

Developing bilateral cooperation. In 2013, it was signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of forestry with the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Republic of Turkey. In 2016–2018 it was signed Memorandums of Understanding and Cooperation with forest administrations of Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Slovenia in the field of forestry.
