The Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (previous name Forest Committee was changed in 2013) is an intergovernmental body of the UNECE and a platform for the European region to discuss topical issues of forestry development.
Meetings of the committee are held once a year. Annually, within the framework of the committee's work, market discussions are held and the state of the market of forest products is inspected. Also, one of the main activities of the committee is the role of forests in a green economy, forest resource assessment, the development prospects of forest resources and other issues.
To strengthen work in forestry in the European region, The UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section and Timber was established as the joint secretariat of the UNECE Committee on Forestry and the FAO European Forestry Commission.
More information on the work of The UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section is available at the Section's website: http://www.unece.org/forests.html.
