The Production Association "Ukrcerlisproekt" has received a new server and equipped workstations for specialists in remote sensing of Earth and geographic information systems from its Czech partners. This support comes within the framework of the project titled "Strengthening Ukraine's Potential in Forest Monitoring for Harmonization with EU Standards."
This assistance will enable engineers to work with satellite images and interpret plots within the national forest inventory network.
"The Czech Republic has done a great deal to support the Ukrainian forest sector during the extremely difficult times of the full-scale war and continues to provide systemic assistance," noted Viktor Smal, Head of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine (SFRA).
In particular, "Ukrcerlisproekt," which was significantly damaged during the Russian offensive in 2022, has already received modern computer equipment for in-house processing of forest data, server equipment for the central database, an all-wheel-drive vehicle for field team logistics, and much other necessary equipment from colleagues at the Czech Forest Institute.
The project, which is financed by the Czech Development Agency, helps to create a comprehensive and reliable forest monitoring system and to improve the quality of official forest data for national reporting and for international systems, particularly the Global Forest Resources Assessment by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The SFRA Head also discussed common challenges facing both the Czech Republic and Ukraine with his Czech colleagues, particularly in preparing for the implementation of the European regulation EUDR (European Union Deforestation Regulation). Some of the software solutions for this are being developed precisely at "Ukrcerlisproekt."
"I am grateful to the Czech Republic for its continuous assistance and hope that our cooperation will not end with the completion of this project in March 2026. Our Czech colleagues are ready to continue supporting the forest sector and helping us on our path to European integration," Viktor Smal concluded.
