SUVs and computer equipment: Germany supports forest inventory in Ukraine

posted 19 December 2025 17:11

With the support of the German government, the Ukrainian state forest inventory enterprise «Ukrderzhlisproekt» has received new all-wheel-drive off-road vehicles for fieldwork, as well as computer equipment that will improve data processing quality.

The assistance was delivered with the participation of Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Taras Vysotskyi and representatives of the German Embassy.

«This is a very important contribution to our resilience through the development of the forestry sector, which is strategically important. It supports the economy, provides jobs for thousands of people, and plays a key role in fulfilling Ukraine’s climate and European integration commitments», - emphasized Deputy Minister Taras Vysotskyi.

Head of the State Forest Resources Agency Viktor Smal expressed gratitude to the people of Germany for their strong support of Ukraine’s forestry sector during this difficult time of full-scale war.

«Germany is one of the countries that has supported Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion, including assistance to the forestry sector. This support is consistent and comprehensivetarge – ted exactly where it is most needed. We are grateful that the Federal Government of Germany responded to the request of the State Forest Resources Agency and, through the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Regional Identity (BMLEH), approved this project», - said Viktor Smal.

Agricultural Counsellor at the German Embassy Ansgar Аschfalk assured that such support will continue.

«The German government is helping Ukraine in its efforts to modernize the forestry sector. Our cooperation предусматриває long-term assistance to Ukraine. The support we are providing today will contribute to the effective work of «Ukrderzhlisproekt» – improving data processing quality and the mobility of staff conducting fieldwork», - noted Ansgar Аschfalk.

Director General of «Ukrderzhlisproekt» Viktor Melnychenko emphasized the importance of the assistance provided with the support of the German government.

«Due to the war, we have lost a great deal: buildings, facilities, vehicles, computer equipment, as well as forest inventory materials accumulated over decades, which are now irretrievably lost. Therefore, we are grateful for this support and hope for further cooperation», - he said.

According to the Head of the State Forest Resources Agency, the provided assistance will help implement close-to-nature forestry in the mountain forests of the Carpathian region and prepare for compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which will come into force in 2027, as these processes depend on the efficiency and quality of forest inventory data.
