Representatives of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine held a working meeting with Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, Yvonne Gall, First Secretary for Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ukraine, and the management of the German-Ukrainian Sustainable Forestry Implementation (SFI) project.

The participants discussed the project's implementation progress, the execution of the 2026 work plan, and the priorities for future cooperation in the field of sustainable forest management.

The SFI project is one of the key international technical assistance initiatives supporting the development of Ukraine's forestry sector. It promotes the implementation of European approaches to forest management, the harmonisation of Ukrainian forest legislation with EU legislation, and the development of a modern forest monitoring system and the National Forest Inventory.

Among the key achievements of the joint work are:

completion of the field phase of the first cycle of the National Forest Inventory;

improvement of Remote Sensing methodologies for assessing forest resources, particularly in areas where field surveys are restricted due to the security situation;

testing and validation of modern European forest resource growth and development models;

provision of modern equipment and software to Ukrainian specialists, along with professional training delivered in cooperation with German partners.

Particular attention was given to preparations for the second cycle of the National Forest Inventory (2026-2030), the further development of the forest monitoring system using Remote Sensing technologies, and the implementation of European methodologies for forest resource assessment.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war, Ukraine continues to advance its forestry reform and implement modern European standards in the sector. We express our sincere gratitude to the Government of Germany and all SFI project partners for their continued support, expert assistance, and joint efforts toward the development of sustainable forest management in Ukraine.
