Now all timber that will not be included in the electronic system of timber tracking will be considered illegal.
"Delaying the adoption of the Instruction on electronic system of timber tracking lasted more than 1.5 years. After all, the adoption of this document was extremely unprofitable to players in the shadow market. Now we will take out of the shadows the processes that take place on one third of the Ukrainian forests", - said the Deputy Head for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization Victor Smal. Electronic system of timber tracking is a program for monitoring timber that has been harvested and realized.
How does electronic system of timber tracking work? A special tag is affixed to the harvested timber. This tag encrypts information about the characteristics of the wood and the place where it was cut. When the wood is moved on to the warehouse, a bill of lading is affixed to it with information about transportation.
Together, all of this information goes into the electronic timber tracking system. This data keeps a clear track of who cut what timber where and, most importantly, how much. Thus, it is possible to compare how much timber was cut and how much timber was sold afterwards.
